Sports Massage Therapy for Yogis
This course will explore sports massage targeted specifically for yoga practitioners. Yoga as a physical practice will be addressed, with 4 common yoga poses broken down to focus on the anatomy, structure, and function of the muscles and joints most involved. Massage techniques and stretching will be demonstrated which students will then practice with hands-on time for both.

About the presenter:

Jane Kordish, BA, AS, LMT, CIPI, CKTP Jane is a U.S. Army veteran and experienced sports massage therapist living in the Tampa Bay area. As a health care professional for over 15 years, she has been bringing “educated touch” to the military community since 2011. Working with all of the service branches in the Military Adaptive Sports Program, at camps and the Warrior Games, she has honed her skills with a special population of warrior athlete. During that time, she has also completed advanced training in order to better serve the athletes. These additional courses in Active Isolated Stretching, cupping, Kinesiotaping, myofascial release, and others allow Jane to bring a multi-modality approach to her work. She completed her internship in sports massage at the Central Florida School of Massage with weekly hands on work with the athletes of the University of Central Florida and also became an instructor for other LMT’s. She has found that as a sports massage therapist
she has been very successful in helping the athletes make it through weeklong MASP camps injury-free. She cannot count the times that organizers have told her, “Our athletes wouldn’t make it past Wednesday if you weren’t here.” Jane knows that listening to athletes and addressing their concerns with very targeted interventions helps them compete at their best no matter what sport they are participating in. She has learned through experience to work with athletes who have amputations, burns and scarring, limited range of motion of joints, traumatic brain injuries, Post Traumatic Stress, and many other issues. It has helped greatly to be a veteran of the military and therefore already a member of the community. Jane believes that building trust with the athletes quickly is essential for the work, and that meeting the individual where they are is key. Jane also has vast experience outside the MASP world, including stints at the US Olympic Paralympic Training Center, US Open Golf Championship, AVP Professional Beach Volleyball Gold Tours, USA Track & Field Championships and Masters Championships, Warrior Sailing, and numerous US Olympic Trials. Jane is also a Vinyasa yoga teacher and has been an avid yogi for almost two decades.
