Proposed  changes to Auto Insurance Coverage may exclude Massage Therapy  and Therapists. We need you to write your State Representatives and Senators, asking them not to support any language excluding massage therapy provided by Licenses Massage Therapists.

This is a simple process, involving cut and paste, on two government websites–

and

I live and work in your district. I am writing because I am very concerned about my future as a Florida licensed health care professional and that of my clients. In 2012 the Legislature altered PIP coverage and determined that Massage Therapy was not medically effective. However, this determination was made without any review of the then current, peer-reviewed medical literature. In fact, all the peer-reviewed published data at that time and currently indicates that massage therapy is medically effective, cost effective, and one of the best options for non-invasive care following soft tissue trauma. The 2012 changes were made to limit fraud and reduce costs and does not appear to have worked. Massage therapy is an effective health care modality.. Accordingly, I am writing today to encourage you to contact me or my professional association, The Florida State Massage Therapy Association, and not support any language excluding massage therapy provided by Florida Department of Health Licensed Massage Therapists for those suffering soft tissue injuries following motor vehicle accidents and receiving either Medical Pay Coverage, coverage under Bodily Injury or Under/Un-insured Motorist Coverage, or any other third party health insurance coverage. All I can reasonably ask is for you to provide me with the opportunity to review the peer-reviewed medical literature with you before you allow anyone to make any further sweeping generalizations improperly declaring massage therapy ineffective.

Senator, please help. I’ve already sent an E-mail to the Senator for my district. But I am writing to ask your help as the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee.
